Can someone explain why ouhei is arrogance?

横柄 (ouhei) is composed of two characters that I understand, but I cannot understand why, when they are put together, it is a synonym for 尊大 (sondai), which makes sense. To my mind, 横柄 should be a mathematical expression or something, and read
