Words Search Tips

  • Search using kanji, hiragana, katakana and romaji.
  • Click on any kanji to see readings, meanings and stroke count.
  • Click on any phrase in the example sentences to quickly preview its meaning.
  • Use wildcards: _ for exactly one character and * for many or none.
  • If looking for a specific english phrase with more than one word, use double quotation marks ("...") to improve your results.
  • If searching with romanized katakana use - (dash) instead of repeating vowels.
    i.e. クーラー (cooler) would be ku-ra- and not kuuraa.
  • Click on English definitions to find words with similar meanings.
  • Multiple kanji variants in single phrase are arranged from the most commonly used to the least popular or outdated spelling.
