This site is a simple web application build with PHP and MySQL, making use of the free files provided by The Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group established within the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, Australia. Following files are in use by tangorin.com:

• JMdict - a project started in 1991 by Jim Breen. Standard Japanese-English reference with over 117,000 entries.
• ENAMDICT - proper names dictionary with over 723 000 entries containing Japanese proper names, place-names, surnames, given names, company names and product names.
• KANJIDIC2 - an XML kanji database with over 12,000 entries.
• KRADFILE and KRADFILE2 - 6,355 kanji from JIS X 0208-1997 and 5,801 kanji from JIS X 0212 decomposed into common elements. (Copyright Michael Raine, James Breen and James Rose of kanjicafe.com).
• EXAMPLES - Over 150,000 parallel example Japanese-English sentences compiled by Professor Yasuhito Tanaka and his students at Hyogo University.
• KanjiCafe's SODs - 1,513 stroke order diagrams drawn with much effort by many contributors to Jim Rose's project.

Tangorin.com also makes us of jQuery JavaScript library and famfamfam.com icon set.

About the author

My name is Grzegorz Bober and I'm a Japanology student at the University of Warsaw Institute of Oriental Studies (三年生). I was unsatisfied with the overall functionality, user-interface and aesthetics of available online dictionaries so in September 2007 I started working on my own script for the EDICT files. It seemed fun and I liked the results so I decided to publish it online and couldn't stop developing ever since.
